TV Show and Tell: True Blood Season 4: Morgue—the Body Count

Despite the fact that I didn't particularly enjoy all of season 4, that's not to say that I no longer enjoy True Blood as a whole.

I'm dedicating this post to commemorate the casualties of the last season. To those who have been stabbed, shot, burned, disintegrated, mangled or met the True Death, this is for you!

NAMELESS FAIRY EXTRA

Disintegrated by another nameless fairy extra.

EARL STACKHOUSE

Disintegrated after crossing the fairy/human barrier.

MINERVA

Marnie's Familiar. Died, resurrected and died again.

UNNAMED FRAMED (YOUTUBE) VAMPIRE

One of Bill's subjects caught on tape feeding on a human. Sentenced to the True Death.

QUEEN SOPHIE-ANN LECLERQ

Betrayed by Bill and the Authority. Shot in the heart with wooden bullets with silver cores.

CLAUDINE CRANE

"Accidentally" drained by Eric.

ANTONIA GAVILAN DE LOGROÑO

Burnt at the stake 400 years ago which caused her to return and seek revenge.

FELTON NORRIS

Stabbed in the neck by Jason Stackhouse in self-defense.

JOE LEE MICKENS

Beaten to death with a steel pipe by son, Tommy Mickens in self-defense.

MELINDA MICKENS

Angered by the death of Joe Lee, she attacked Tommy but was also killed.

JESUS' PET GOAT

Stabbed to death by Jesus under his Abuelo's (Grandfather's) orders.

UNNAMED SPANISH WITCH

Fed upon by the vampires who posed as priests.

SPANISH VAMPIRES OF LOGROÑO

Forced to walk into the sun by Antonia's necromancy.

SACRIFICIAL RATTLESNAKE

Used by Jesus' Abuelo to poison Jesus and awaken Lafayette's powers as a medium. Thrown in the fire after.

KATERINA PELLHAM

Bill's Wiccan spy. Throat crushed by Sheriff Luis Patiño who was under Marntonia's control.

DEER

It's blood was used to initiate Alcide and Debbie into the Shreveport pack.

VAMPIRE SHERIFF LUIS PATIÑO

Compelled by Antonia to attack Bill, and eventually stake himself.

BEULAH CARTER

The only casualty of Marntonia's second 'Resurrection'. Walked out into the sun.

BUCKY

One of Bill's most trusted bodyguards. Tricked into helping a spellbound Jessica and was killed by her.

MAVIS and her BABY

Stabbed by her lover and caused her spirit to remain restless and to haunt Bon Temps.

BEVERLEEN

Member of Marnie's coven. Throat ripped out by Eric.

Shot by Tara.

Fed on by Eric.

Disemboweled by spellbound Vampire Sheriffs.

Killed by Marnie—who was possessing Lafayette—in order to gain his powers.

Now, for the total tally. I'm just going to include characters who we actually see dead/disintegrated/etc and not including characters who were dead prior to the start of season 4 or who died in flashbacks.

Total - 38

Thirty-eight deaths in 12 episodes... pretty gruesome.

On the one hand, I'm relieved that they got rid of a bunch of characters, it was getting too cluttered. In fact, there are still some living characters that I've long tossed into the 'dont-care' bin: Luna Garza, Maurelle (Andy's fairy ho), Crystal Norris, Portia Bellefleur... There was simply way too much going on with everybody that the focus on the Witch-Vamp conflict lost some excitement and meatiness.

On the other hand, there are some characters that I really enjoyed and wish they didn't get rid of just yet: Queen Sophie-Ann, Nan Flanagan.

As for Tara—question mark—it has been released that Rutina Wesley, who plays Tara on the show, has been asked to return for season five. However, the details of how long she'll be on this season are unclear.

Now, just because season four has ended, don't think that my True Blood posts will stop. I promise to share any teasers and tidbits I come across on the interwebs.

True Blood has been renewed for its fifth season and is scheduled for release in the summer of 2012.

I will be tuning in. I can't agree more with their promotional slogan:
